Profile

I began painting in 1988 while studying art at the California State University of Northridge, where I obtained my BA in 1990 and my MA in 1992. The month after my MA show my work was shown by the City of Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department in their West Los Angeles City Hall Gallery.  The following year, I received first prize in a juried competition at the Carlson Gallery of the University of Bridgeport. This exhibition was juried by Elisabeth Sussman of the Whitney Museum at the time she was putting together a very controversial Whitney Biennial.  One of my paintings was chosen for the cover of Art Calendar Magazine in September of 1993 and again in 2002.   In 1994, I had my first Museum show at the Las Vegas Museum of Art Main Gallery and I had my first solo show at Acanthus Gallery (now the Mark Woolley Gallery) in Portland Oregon. At that time I was invited to give a lecture about my work to the members of the Portland Museum of Art and was signed on as one of Mark Woolley's artists. In the ensuing years my paintings have shown in numerous gallery and university settings around the country. In 2006, I moved to Birmingham, Alabama, where I continue to paint.
